Salma Hayek in Lonely Hearts

Salma Hayek  in the crime film  Lonely Hearts(2006) is ruthless unless she gets what she wants, and her dressing could speak for itself about her utter viciousness. What she does besides luring and manipulating everyone around her is redefining the femme fatale in 5 simple rules:

1. Red lipstick is absolutely essential and if you're blessed with a pair of enchanting green eyes you'll probably have everyone kneeling at your feet with just one look. 2. The V neckline dress - along with those hand gloves - for those who dare to attempt a deadly combination. 3. A fedora hat -even indoors- because what's a femme fatale with no touches of dramatic excesses? 4. The perfect pair of cat-eye sunglasses for the 'unattainable' effect. 5. The attitude. You don't need makeup or fancy accessories to act like you own it.

Dakota Fanning in Very Good Girls

There's this summer feel in every outfit of Dakota Fanning's character in Very Good Girls that could not go unnoticed.  The abundance of shirts and shirt dresses enhances the summer-y, laid back attitude of living on the suburbs of New York city few months before leaving for college. Leave the wind to work its way through your hair, or simply put it in a ponytail, grab a bike, sunglasses and you're ready to go. Besides, that's what summer's all about, isn't it?

Astrid Berges-Frisbey in I Origins

Can't wait for the perfect opportunity to sport a fairy-like maxi dress with a bad-ass leather jacket.

Mélanie Laurent in Inglourious Basterds

Let's be honest, no one can pull off a masculine outfit as elegantly as a french girl.  Mélanie Laurent in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds is living in a war-torn Paris and the colours of her clothes blend so well with the palette of the setting.  Rusty reds, greens and ochras create this sophisticated/artistic effect without being dull and even though they're autumnal, they seem the perfect choice for this current bipolar spring here in the UK. Last - but obviously not least - outfit of the film is a long red dress, along with the essential red lipstick, the ideal combination for the girl who nevertheless raises hell.  Is there a better source of inspiration than the image of a french girl straight from the 40s?

Kim Novak in Vertigo

Kim Novak's stare in Alfred Hitchcocks Vertigo is capable of turning you into ice but her look is so perfectly put-together that I just couldn't help it.  Black on black is topped with white and the result is minimalistic glamour.  No jewelries needed, the shapes and fabrics of the clothes are so thoughtfully coordinated that keep the look fresh, neat, but still remarkable. Her almost platinum hair are tied, defining her flawlessly shaped face and making her stare even more relentless.  Definitely a look to keep on your records.

Keira Knightley in Begin Again

Keira Knightley in Begin Again (2013) puts her own character when it comes to dressing for living in a New York bathed in sun and music.  She's all about comfortable, over-sized pants tightened with a belt to outline her slim figure and simple, neutral-toned tops with light fabrics to create a boyish, nonchalant attitude.  She strolls around the Big Apple with a guitar on her back and when she is not entirely lost in listening to music or probably composing songs in her head, she hangs around with a worn-out music producer and a bunch of musicians who decide to record an album outdoors.
Throughout the film, Keira has you thinking: why do I even bother with tight clothes and layering? but the harsh truth of reality hits you when you realize, hey, you're not Keira Knightley, you're not a fully-immersed-in-music New Yorker, and finally that kind of weather in the UK? Girl, this is simply absurd.

Cate Blanchett in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Cate Blanchett in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) is all things elegant, and choosing which were my favourite outfits of hers throughout the film was simply utopic; hence the abundance of screenshots.  With a swan-like face like hers, one couldn't not look elegant even in a garbage bag, but her character Daisy honestly puts elegance in a whole new level.  With black or blue as a base to all outfits, she adds checkered patterns, generous touches of red that works oh-so-well with her perfectly styled hair, hints of bright colour and the result is astonishing.
Her silhouette just screams ballerina and the shape of her clothes so munificently compliment her figure.  Skirts below the knee dance along her body and tight tops define her graceful posture.  Even when she is not dressed like ballerina, she maintains her charming aesthetic with light coloured jeans, a shirt, a sweater around her shoulders and all stars - is there a better way to dress for a relaxed afternoon?  Her make up is always kept natural, with only her cheekbones - probably carved by the gods - standing out, harmonized with her bright blue eyes.
I could go on for ages, but I'll leave it here.  If she hasn't convinced you to cut your hair shoulder-length and buy more below-the-knee skirts, you probably weren't paying enough attention.
